Dublin Church Renovation
Protected structure collaboration
This former Methodist Meeting Hall, dating from 1847, is a protected structure with high vaulted ceilings and Gothic-style lancet windows. It had latterly been used as an office space and the client wished to convert it into an elegant home. We worked in collaboration with Paul Brazil Associates who were engaged as architects on the project.
The existing building was remodelled and an extension with an outdoor courtyard area was added. A mezzanine was inserted as an office or second bedroom, while a central skylight was introduced to brighten the double-height space. MFI designed and selected all interior materials and finishes. Tiling patterns in the hall and bathroom were chosen to reference the 19th-century origins of the structure. Unique wooden salvage-yard finds were also used in areas as decorative features, providing another gentle nod to the building’s past.
