Old Meets New, Dublin
This was a modest Edwardian home on a large and narrow site in South Dublin. It was decided to extend the first floor to include four bedrooms, including one master with an ensuite and a new family bathroom.
The family were keen about retaining and repairing original features in the house. MF Interiors worked in collaboration with DMVF architects who designed a bright and airy extension.
The brief for the interior design was to create elegant, comfortable and timeless spaces that worked well for a growing family. It had to be aesthetically beautiful without being overly precious or formal.
Polished concrete was used throughout the project to echo the original wall construction of the house.
The lighting scheme helps to transform the space. Blending the traditional style of the house and the more contemporary extension was achieved by a linked colour scheme and repetition of material finishes. The house is contemporary straight lines at the back while at the same time being intimate and cosy at the front. The house is larger and brighter but all the internal rooms are being full utilised.
