Coastal Home, South Dublin
Working in collaboration with DMVF architects, we became involved at an early stage of the design process for this Edwardian red brick house, located in the coastal area of South County Dublin.
While the house was in bad repair, a lot of the original features were intact. It was decided to extend the space to include a new open plan kitchen/dining room and living area. Three large overhead windows bring natural light into this area, which benefits from a soft evening light.
The sun filled entrance area of the house has a more classic feel to the design and includes family heirlooms including a much-loved grandfather clock and antique mirror. The aim for the interior design project was to create; light filled, elegant, comfortable, timeless spaces that work well to meet the functional needs of the family and are aesthetically beautiful, without being overly precious or formal.
Clever storage solutions were especially important, and rooms are designed to cater for the future needs of a growing family. The hanging of a much-loved personal collection of artwork was an important consideration in the overall scheme.
