Malahide Coastal Project
Our client purchased a house in a residential development on the outskirts of the coastal village of Malahide which included a basic kitchen and standard fitted bathrooms only. Our brief was to create a unique, inspiring, contemporary, light filled, comfortable home that would function efficiently while maximising views of the sea, wherever possible. The design was developed to create a wow appeal and be an inspiring space to work, share with family and friends, play music and showcase a passion for the arts and photography.
Having agreed upon a functional layout we made three main structural interventions, including taking out a stud wall at the top of the stairs and replacing it with a glazed unit, taking out an angled island unit in the kitchen and replacing it with a rectangular structure and extending a stud partition wall to create a niche space for a discreet home bar in the main entertainment room. A new lighting scheme was developed to; add visual interest to the scheme, facilitate essential task work and focus attention on key elements of the design. Mirrors are used extensively throughout the house to reflect coastal views and bring additional light into spaces whilst hand applied microcement was used in several areas to add textural interest. Throughout the property timeless sculptural furniture forms, vintage finds, jewel colours, Irish art and craft combine to create a truly bespoke, unique, inspirational, personal space with excellent functionality at its core.
